We’ve all had to peel a potato before (and if you haven’t, then I’m sure you’ve at least peeled some sort of vegetable). You know how it’s done: you get a bowl, a vegetable peeler, and your pile of spuds. Then, you drag the peeler up and down the potato and over the bowl until it’s completely clean.
As you know, this can be a relatively time-consuming and laborious process, even if you’re an expert. That’s why the video featured here is so amazing. In simple terms, it essentially shows you how to peel your potatoes without all of the hard work.
Don’t get me wrong, you still have to do some prep, but it involves far less elbow grease on your end. Indeed, with this method, all you will need is a knife, a kettle, and a pot to boil your potatoes in.
What you do is simple, yet ingenious: you cut a straight line around the midsection of the potato, making sure that the ends meet. Then, you put your potatoes in a pot, and use your kettle to pour boiling water over them.
After a few minutes, all you do is drain the hot water, add cold water, grab a potato, and pull. Voila! The skin comes right off, not unlike a loose foil wrapper on a chocolate egg.
Check out the video and see for yourself (credit to DaveHax @YouTube). I was shocked by the ease of this process.
Are there any disadvantages to this miraculous peeling technique? It depends. If you are a practiced peeler, this method might not save you any time. Conversely, you might enjoy using a traditional vegetable peeler so much that you don’t mind the extra effort it takes to prepare potatoes that way.
Either way, I think you should give this fancy new technique a try. I know I will! Who’s up for some mashed potatoes?
