4 Ways To Master Any Skill and Achieve Greatness

4 Ways To Master Any Skill & Achieve Greatness

Archery, the practice or skill of using a bow to propel arrows.

In my journey to become a better person, to have a great life and to do what I love to do, I have discovered that there was a simple attitude that allowed me, or anyone else for that matter, to master any skill and then use those skills to get what they want in life.

All the skills that are worth mastering, that can bring you enough wealth and make you reach your full potential in this world, have something in common.

They are difficult to acquire.

This makes the people who master them a rare commodity, thus increasing their value and demand in the marketplace of life.

Now, the only thing you need to do in order to master a great skill is implement THE proper attitude.

Here are the 4 elements that constitute the corner stones of any proper attitude that you should develop in order to become a master and champion at anything you want.

Obsession

I could have used words like passion or dedication here, and frankly, they would have been good choices too. But I used obsession simply because that is how most people around you will describe the experience.

Obsession is essential because in order to master a skill, you need to read everything about it, meet and interact with other people who love it and have the inner desire to do it every day just as much as you do.

Obsession is the fuel that will propel you in that journey.

That is why you need to focus on something you love to do and go for it "full throttle". Don’t be afraid to turn it into a fixation. Read about it, talk about it, sing about it, dream about it, make a business out of it; basically, just do it as much as you can!

At one point, it must turn into a habit, something that you have fully integrated into your lifestyle.

Discipline

Most people perceive discipline as something negative, difficult or boring, but it is really not. Discipline is such a great gift that you can easily give to yourself. Almost everything good you will achieve in your life will require discipline.

After all, discipline is nothing more than putting the action you need to do in your schedule recurrently and prioritize with no regard to whether you feel  like doing it or not.

I.e.: Sunday morning, I do 45 minutes of physical conditioning. In the last 10 years, I haven't missed more than 10 sessions, and when I did miss one, I would do it the next day!

It’s is carved in stone!

It is non-negotiable because I have committed myself to it, and I respect my commitments.

That’s why I have exceptional results!

To master a skill, you need to do it over and over again for many years.

Make the choice, give it a high priority in your schedule and just do it no matter what!

Perseverance

There will be many obstacles in front of you on the path to master your skill. These will include technical and learning challenges of all sorts, but be sure of one thing: when you put your mind to something you will find a solution to all of your problems a whole lot easier.

However, the biggest obstacle you are likely to encounter will be yourself.

You will get bored, lazy or just want to try something new.

You need to keep in mind that the difference between a champion/master and all the others is that they didn’t abandon their goals when it became hard or boring; they just kept going on and on.

This is how you will get rid of 99.9% of your competition. Almost everyone will abandon before reaching mastery simply because it takes too much time!

The only thing you need to do to reach the top 1% in your field is to not give up!

Focus

It is so easy to get sidetracked especially on long endeavors such as mastering a skill. You need to keep the same direction for many years!

Most people never reach their destination because they didn’t have a clear objective/focus/goal in the first place.

It is true that your ideas and projects need to evolve with time, but you need to have a target in sight, and you must also force yourself to keep that focus in perspective at all times.

Identify what you want to reach, picture a clear vision and write it down as a reminder in your Smartphone or as a poster on your wall.

I will become a champion of this or that, and I will be a world famous expert on that. Keep going!

I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times. - Bruce Lee

Mastering a great skill is not rocket science! It’s all about repetition, discipline, perseverance and focus. Anyone can do it! But will you?
